Down Sunnyside Lane

I'm off on Holiday to Devon tomorrow. Finally, the last weeks have gone so slowly. We went there last year - and the year before. I'm not usually one for returning to the same place time and time again, but it's wonderful AND free and I'm poor so I couldn't turn my nose up at it.

Last week I spent an unprecedented amount on a bag in a charity shop - £6.50! Mental, considering it's not old, or even leather. But I knew I had to have it.

I saw it in the shop window the night before and then dreamt about it. I'm such a weirdo, but I had to have it. You don't see lace bags that often (probably see loads now) and it's handmade

I was very lucky this week to receive a parcel from the Bionic Woman - We'd organised a show swap, but I hadn't expected:

This utterly amazing vintage wicker box. Vix thinks it's 80s but I think it's 50s or 60s.

What do you think?

Vix knows me so well, she knew I'd love this granny heels. I wore them to Hughenden Manor, they have no grip at all, so I was sliding across the parquet floors! I also did my first talk to a group of about 15 visitors on Benjamin Disraeli

She also sent me this wonderful card, which had been sent by her Great Gran to her Grandmother. I adore it, I love overly bright chocolate boxy 1930s cottage pictures.

Not that I have to go far to find my own slice of perfection in nature. The woods are ridiculously lush right now and the air is heady with the scent of honeysuckle, it's hanging everywhere is huge cascading walls.

There are also groves of foxgloves and the ferns have completely taken over

I'll be catching up sporadically on blogs during the week, have a great time everyone!

when my sister and I were young, we would pull the honeysuckle flowers off the vine and suck out the nectar. We never got sick, so I guess it was safe.......The foxglove and ferns are also beautiful.

I wish I was coming with you! What perfect weather you're going to have and no doubt you'll come back with a pile of fabulous chazza bargains, too!
That bag is great, can totally understand why you dreamt about it.
Just tittering about you skidding along the Manor trying to be all adult in your granny shoes and telling the visitors about Hughenden!
The woods look gorgeous, bit like how my garden might look if I could be arsed to venture further than the washing line!
Have a fantastic time! I'll miss you! xxxxxxxx

I love the musical entertainment on this post combined with your header photo. Perfect!
Fantastic shoes and bags. Then the card and the photos of the woods, it's like a time warp. I hope you have a refreshing holiday. Congratulations on your first group talk!

When we were kids we would pick off the honeysuckle flowers and pull out the stamens to collect the little droplets of nectar on our tongues. It was really sweet, and they smell so delicious too. I was just reading that some varieties are poisonous!

Of course you had to buy the lace bag, especially if you dreamt about it! That's a given. It is very lovely too.

Enjoy your holiday, Tam x

Oh my word. I clicked on your link to last year and it's taken me home. That's where I d' come from! Nostalgia City. I know all those places so well. Feel a slight sense of yearning. That cottage is something else. I would just want everything! Does it belong to Mike's great aunt or something? Or is it his Uncle Monty?!

Love love love honeysuckle. It has the most heavenly scent. Your woods look utterly idyllic.

That card with the cottage is gorgeous and I love the story of you in the shoes with no grip. Most impressed about your Disraeli talk, bet it was fascinating. Did he live there? I know he is associated with that area. Such a great name: Disraeli. xxxx

It's looking oh so beautiful in your neck of the woods Clare, I get so much pleasure from your nature pics and reports on what's in flower as it looks like a magical fairyland where you live!. That AMAZING wicker basket looks 50s or 60s to me too - the flowers are beautifully worn and the latches look old. What a beautiful gift from dear Vix. Will you take it on holiday with you while wearing your Robert Poste's Child straw hat? I've often dreamed of things I've seen in oppy's then rush down at opening time with my heart in my mouth! Enjoy your holiday lovely, loads of pics please! xoxoxoxo

I'm glad you are going on Holidays, I remember the place and it's lovely! I loved the weird shop and I'd probabily come home with those Satan and Lenin statues after eating a lot of Blue meth fudge!!Ha! The lace bag is beautiful and when you dream about something you have seen in a shop it means it has to be yours! Vix's parcel is wonderful too, the shoes are so pretty and the bag is a bomb!! I haven't seen it from a closer angle, but it seems from the 60's even if Vix is my mentor and probabily she knows better than me, anyway I love it!!!
Have a wonderful day!!!
Love xxxx

"Wonderful and free" - what's not to like about a holiday like that? There's nothing wrong with returning to the same place over and over, if you enjoy it. YOu know you have to buy something when it starts invading your dreams;) I would get some rubber half soles put on those shoes so you don't fall! Love the vintage card and bag (I'd say 50's or 60's too); Vix is a sweetie.

Lovely lace purse!! If you dreamt about it then it was a must!!!
I have no idea how to date wicker baskets-so sorry can't help.
Have fun on your holiday,
Becky :)

Lovely bag - I'm sure you dream was a sign! I think the wicker bag might be earlier than 80s - the clasp looks like an older style but I may well be wrong. I have a very similar print to the card - must put it on the wall one day! Hope you have a great holiday x.
P.S. Have emailed you about the trouser suit.

Isn't it great when you fall in love? I am currently in a new relationship with a proudly Australian all leather handbag called Louis Cardini. I find his magnetic clasp divine!

haha me too i´m weird like that too, but especially with shoes, once i saw a pair i loved so much and tried them even on but didn´t buy them so at home i was regretting it so much that i dreamed about them too and i could not even wait to go to the shop the next day so i had to search for them online and buy them..thats really weird;) and i can totally understand you as this bag is really really beautiful!
enjoy your holidays darling!
lots of love and kisses,mary

Yeah, you are a total weirdo but that's OK! Such a ladylike little lace bag, and the wicker box bag from Vix is perfection. I am laughing about you slipping and sliding your way round Hughenden - slippy-soled shoes for grannies seems like a potential disaster, but very funny! Well done on giving your Disraeli talk, I hope you didn't skid on the parquet during that...
Oh the woodland in South Bucks is so gorgeous, my mum pops back to her old neck of the woods (literally) regularly to top herself up on the loveliness.
Enjoy your holiday, love, take tons of pics. Please make a return visit to the mad bookshop with the unhelpful owners, they sound a hoot! xxxxxxx

As you can see, now I'm catching up on my blogs too...I should be working but just don't want to.;)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who dreams about clothes. I take it as the sure sign that you indeed need that item if your subconsciousness even loves it!

Oh, how I would love to be a visitor listening to your talk-lucky them!

Thanks for that bit o music too, loved it. I've actually heard it before when I was listening to a Welsh WWII internet station that I think you'd love. Will have to find it again and send it on.

And, I always love your beautiful nature pictures, gotta keep up that English garden paradise reputation!:)
