Atomic Mildred's Tea Party

I've always been influenced by the 20s and 30s, it's a time I keep returning to. Mary Lou recently posted a photoshoot of her Alice In Wonderland Mad Hatters Tea Party and that inspired me to do my own take. I've also been really inspired by Sarah Moon's 1972 Pirelli Calendar shoot, more on that later.

Let's have some music, I uploaded this song especially, though it's a crime it wasn't on youtube already

1930s Parasol - one of my best finds ever - 50p at a car boot
Dress - is a vintage cotton nightie from ebay
Necklaces - black - used to be Mum's, Coral - 1930s from a shop I used to work in
Belt - Primark
1930s bangles - Charity shop and Second To None

For the porcelain and vintage linen fans...
The green and gold cup was 50p at the Salvation Army Christmas fayre - when I got it home I discovered it was from the 1790s.
The lilac and gold is Japanese 1950s/60s
The Sevres style one is Aynsley from 1910s and the Teapot is 1930s Grindley

Sarah Moon's wonderful romantic and feminine shots were a step away from the usual as far as Pirelli calendars went. I love their 1920s bordello look and the clever painterly use of light.

Look at how beautiful you are! That parasol is exquisite and I love that nightie as a dress and the Second To None bangle. The crow makes a fabulous addition to the twee porcelain and linen, I know at least three bloggers who'll be squealing with excitement over your amazing collection!
How wonderful is that Sara Moon shoot? Gorgeous, but you do it much better! xxxxxx

Very beautiful. What a pretty setting you've captured. You do rock a nightie like a dress like no ones business. The a parasol is divine and what a beautiful collection of cups etc you have there.

Hope your blissfully well.

I think these close-up photos are the most beautiful I've ever seen of you, Clare. You have captured the dreamy, romantic feel of Sarah Moon perfectly, so lovely. And what vintage bedecked table doesn't need a crow for added Edgar Allen Poe drama? The china, the linens, the parasol - oh my goodness, the beautiful parasol! It's all so gorgeous. YOU are gorgeous. Mildred, you've pulled! xxxx

Wow!! These photos are truly breathtaking, I always admired Sarah Moon's work and you captured the atmosphere and the beauty of her sets with an outstanding presence that reminds of her models. You added a '2010 does the 20s through the 70s' touch that makes your photoshoot more atomic and very Mildred! You look so beautiful in that white dress and the parasol is lovely!!
Love it !!!

This is such a magical piece, I mean post. The music adds another dimension as well. I would love to park my new Bugatti in your drive and play tennis after tea or perhaps go for a swim with the gang in the local pond.
You look absolutely lovely with your china and table cloths and dainty parasol. How I would love to hear the conversation.

romantic, beautiful photos, I love the linens and china - I have been desperate for a parasol, the last one I saw was at a vintage fair with a whopper of a price-tag x

You look gorgeous, darling...a little bit mysterious too as if something has happened in the background and you're just taking tea! I do love Sarah Moon I used to have lots of her prints. That's how I envisaged living my life as a grown up...in soft focus with big hair but maybe not with m'tits out. Oh I don't know though...

Oh Clare, you look just so gosh-darned gorgeous in this stellar photo shoot! Whatever post-processing was done on these photos to create the dream-like atmosphere is amazing. I remember the Sarah Moon stuff from my teenage years. I knew I would never be a "Sarah Moon" girl as I didn't have the hair for it ;)

freckleface said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Gosh and Golly Miss Simmonds, what a vision! Sarah Moon meets Room with a view meets Portrait of a lady, this is incredibly romantic and this look suits you to a tee. I don't think you've ever looked so beautiful, so elegant. Was Judy Dench there with you? Or Maggie Smith?

Gis that brolly? I'll pay you a squid for it, I don't mind you making some profit Big Brown Eyes. xxxx

Such a beautiful post, you look amazing!!! You fit right in with all those pretty 20's pics! Thanks for the song, loved it too. Listening to it and looking at these wonderful women makes me want to bob my hair, rouge my knees and join up with the cool girls and go to a place where the gin is cold and the jazz it hot!!!;)
And, I have that same crow, except mine was attacked by my kittens and the beak is chewed up a bit, but would love to bring it over and join you two for tea!:)

What a lovely gentile photoshoot. Very Mapp & Lucia. I love the 20's but not so much the hedonistic, shallow side of it. You've captured the pretty and refined side of it so well. Great catch on the china cup xxx

I read this post along to the music ... Atomic Mildred has perfect taste in tea party tunes. I'm stunned at the beautiful teapot and cups and saucers, I love having just one of a pair from a set, then guests can choose their favourite. I'll have my tea in the green and gold thanks. Nightgown magic casts its spell on me and oh my that parasol certainly is the find of a lifetime! Beautiful Miss Mildred! xoxoxoxo
