Tipping On The Tightrope

Yesterday I had a great day of charity shopping and art with my friend Paul. If anyone knows how to put an outfit together it's him and he pointed out these super high waisted Hockey Mom jeans and immediately matched them to this leopard print swimming costume I just bought. We both agreed this look would evoke a John Waters heroine.
Jeans - £2.99
Swimming costume - £4.30
Sunnies - Ebay
Necklace - Charity shop

After the charity shopping we went to a private view for a new exhibition at Angelika Studios of Martyn Cross' work. I absolutely love it, fantastic use of knitting patterns

I also found this awesome yellow silk blazer for £3

I also excitedly picked up these early 60s Jazz EPs. I got my 60s record play out the loft. It's had two careful owners, my aunt and me, but after nearly 50 years it seems to be going a bit senile.

EPs 50p-£1 each

I also bought: tie dye top, 70s dress, 80s sweater, carved Bakelite bangle, ebay sunnies

This is my new 70s maxi from ebay. The label is great - "Clifton Slimeline, where BIG is beautiful!"

Here's a song I've had in my head for ages, I love Janelle Monae's style.

Back soon!

Goodness me, how beautiful do you look in that maxi dress frolicking the woods? Clifton Slimeline is a very unfortunate name though, not at all glam!
Paul chose fabulously! I love those hipster-style jeans on you, perfect with the leopard swimsuit and turquoise hair, John Walters would have signed you up straight away!
Love the pussy bow frock and the steampunk specs.
I saw Janelle Monae a couple of years ago and she was phenomenal! xxxxxxxxxxxx

A typo, surely - Slimeline? Slimline? Whatever, you look amazing in that beautiful maxi, a barefoot floral-crowned dryad in the dappled light. Gorgeous.
You did well with the chazzing, Paul must be a good luck charm. Excellent John Walters homage, love the leopard print cossie, and the silk blazer, 70s pussy bow frock and bakelite bangle are all lovely finds.
Knitting pattern photos are the best, but they have been made even better by Martyn Cross, that's hilarious!
Have a good weekend, darling! xxxx

You know, I found Paul months ago and The Stylist and I are huge fans, which regularly result in much disgraceful pant-wetting rolling on the floor behaviour. I knew you were also a fan but I hadn't made the connection that you were friends with my favourite celebrity! I am not worthy!!! I adore your new maxi SOOOOOOOOO much and you look like a goddess in it with your fabulous floral headband and your divooooooon turquoise hair. I almost sprayed cheese and crackers all over my screen at the sight of the beautiful pattern models - I wish I could have seen the exhibition. I adore your new sunnies and bangle and yay for hockey mum jeans! xoxoxoxo

Well Paul does know how to dress a lady. Those models are all kinds of freaky I gotta see what that's all about. You keep getting more beautiful Clare! The maxi is a real dream on you and I'm loving the pictures of you wearing it. You must have such an eclectic collection of trinkets !
Xxxxxoooo

You look amazing both as a Waters badass sexy heroin and as an ethereal wood fairy in your marvellous new dress, best photos ever!! The label is great too, even if slimeline doesn't sounds so good.I'm also a big fan of your friend Paul and the photo at the cafe is lovely, I wish to see a collaboration soon! HIgh waisted and jeans and leopard print. Yep, your personal stylist got that right. Wish I had one of those of my own! Love the 'slimeline' maxi too. There is just nothing that your fabulous hair doesn't make 10x better xxx

Count me in for the maxi fan club, you look ethereally beautiful. I am minded ever so slightly of the Cottingley fairies photos, with Frances and Elsie lounging in their dell.

Your friend Paul knows not only how to put an outfit together, but my goodness, can he do make up! If I ever get invited to a swinger's pool party, I know now how to look utterly fabulous. Must make sure I have a B&Q brush in the cupboard, just in case that day comes soon.

Hockey mums watch out. There's a blue-haired lady in town. I see you have managed to find a twin bracelet to match your Second to None repeat. What are the chances? xxxxx

Love you posing in the beautiful maxi in the garden, love the record player, but wow - your friend Paul has put together a super outfit! And I'm intrigued by those creepy looking knitting pattern girls - must check out the artist now. ~ LittleMissPlump (Sara)

I love that song- done my share of hitting replay all day on youtube of it. Replay that jeans and leopard busienss would you? I love the way it conveys a John Waters film.

CityScape Skybaby said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Love how you can go from trashy John Waters heroine to ethereal wood nymph in one post Clare, with lots of stop offs for arty fun and charity shopping on the way. That first picture of you in your maxi dress is absolutely beautiful, if you ever make a folksy album, that should be the cover! Then your next album could be all snarly rock music and you can put your leopard print and jeans on that one. xx

The photos of you in the woods in the "Slimeline" Maxi are sooo cool! I will have to take a look at who this awesome Paul is. Excellent score on the bakelite bangle and sunnies. I've been on the hunt for an affordable piece of bakelite for ages, but it's hugely overpriced here.

I either missed this post the first time around or am becoming a bit like the record-player...
That knitting pattern art by Mr. Cross FREAKS me out! I don't know if I like it or hate it. I think I like it... I know I'll dream about it.
What I DO like are your new sunnies and those incredible photos of you in the '70s maxi! Slimeline? Priceless tag.
