Madame Butterfly

Butterfly headress - made by me (approx cost £8)
earrings - £2 Oasis
Sabbath T shirt - £3 Primark (How often are these band t's bought by genuine fans?)
80s French Connection  - £3 Charity shop
Socks  - £1 River Island
Shoes - £2 Charity shop

I've had a pretty good week of charity shopping and even some the high street shops yielded choice goodies
1930s Grindley Teapot, velvet bow bangle, Victorian carved bone brooch and Italian and French 60s singles all from charity shops, gorgeous rose dress and groovy pj bottoms in 25% off sale at Sainsbury's. This video on identifying antique brooches helped me prove the date of the little brooch.

Yesterday, Lisa and I went to Reading for a spot of shopping, I managed to spend very little, only getting the t-shirt and earrings you see above along with some bobby socks. The sun was actually shining and I didn't even need a coat

I just had to photograph this Easter Cloutie Tree next to the church, I love this melding of ancient pagan and early Christian tradition within a modern city centre.

Something very exciting is coming up on Wednesday....

I wonder the same thing about those t-shirts. Target and Wal-Mart sell them and a lot of the collage boys wear them. When I see a 20 year old wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt it makes me laugh. Been there, saw them. Love the little rose pin and I'll be checking out the video link.

Wow! I love that headpiece. That's so fabulous. I also love the combo of the mustard skirt with turquoise shoes and head band. Must look into my wardrobe to find out if I have the right colours. Wish you the best!

Hey you! You look fab, oh but watch out, there's a menacing cloud of butterflies descending on you!!! Only kidding- WOW!!!!!!!!! That is amazing (hmmmm, do you do commissions?? My Mum would love that headdress!)
Is that called a Cloutie tree then? Ah, so I have a name for what my mum did to our apple tree in the garden!!!!!! x

LOVE that headband, mate. You are so clever. I've got some other twinkly bits in my stash that you could make use of.
I wonder the same about the band
t shirts too. When we have a dress as you want day at school, loads of 11 year olds come in wearing them and when you ask them about the music, they don't know who Led Zep or Sabbath are, god bless 'em!
Callas makes me cry..
Lots of love,
Em

Yay for sunshine! I absolutely LOVE this. I think it's one of my favorites. :) The yellow skirt is amazing; such a rich color. And the headress is BEYOND FANTASTIC! I'm obsessed. It's so pretty, Clare! :D

I've often wondered how many people are truly fans; I always want to shout from the rooftops: JUST SO YOU KNOW, I ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THIS BAND. lol That tee rocks, and I love it w/ everything else. Perfect combo. And what amazing finds. The brooch is awesome sauce!

Madame Butterfly is one of my very favorites! ::sigh:: Can't wait to hear about Wednesday!

I love the headpiece especially with the fake vintage band t-shirt and the beautiful maxi! You should post the DIY tutorial, I'd love to have it! Your finds are always very interesting, especially the brooch and the Fred Bongusto record, I need to study that video, it's so useful!
Lots of Love xxxxxxxxx

Now that I have calmed down a bit and mopped down my keyboard, I can tell you what a glorious work of art your butterfly head dress is! What with you wearing it in the sunshine, I'm all aflutter with excitement!!! You are glorious!!!! Your eyeshadow, your BS t-shirt (I can't bear to wear band shirts if I'm not a fan either) and that amazing skirt which looks totally splendiferous with your breton top and scarf!! What a picture you are! Teapot! Rose frock! Brooch! Shopping with Lisa! Glory be you've had the weekend I wish I had!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Desiree is aflutter! As am I! That headband looks ready to take off and take you with it, a la Mary Poppins. That would be too MUCH FUN!! Genius project, genius result. I love the ancient pagan mingling as well. We only get running shoes hanging from electric lines - also a form of primitive and tribal custom. Your romantic hutch moment fits Callas beautifully.

AWEsomeness! That headband is genius for the start of spring. Love your op-shopped outfit.
Fab tree.. I'm looking that tradition up. Not one I'm familiar with over here where our seasons are arse about tit in relation to the festivals!
x Sheesh primark sells cheap stuff. I bought some undies there and they last half a day. Lol. t'shirt is cool though. And for 3 quid it doesn't matter too much if it doesn't make the whole season!

You look beautiful sitting in your pergola in the dappled sunlight! that headband is a masterpiece and I adore the mustard maxi on you. The new shoes are perfect and the Sabbath tee shirt was a fab bargain. I can't stand teeny boppers in Smiths, Ramones and Blondie teeshirts, drives me daft.
Great finds as always and delighted that you managed to walk around without a coat, bastard freezing here despite the sunshine!
Can't wait till Wednesday! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh you are SUCH a clever chick, fancy being able to make such a beautiful thing as that butterfly extravaganza? You look like some romantic heroine, sitting in your pergola in the beautiful light, all dreamy and gorgeous. The butterflies, the earrings, the eye shadow, the skirt, and then a burst of Black Sabbath - the perfect mixture!
The rose print on the dress and the brooch are rather delicious. And the Cloutie Tree looks beautiful in the sunshine.

Who's a clever girl then? well that would be you.
I cannot stand seeing band t-shirts in Primani in my day you had to earn your band t-shirt.

Let me know next time you're in Reading I'll zip over and we can go to wetherspoons and be terrified by the drunks.

Louise Mc said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Love the head dress. There's definitely some high street bargains to be had now, I think. I wanted a Bowie t-shirt from Primarni, but the big sizes sold out in no time and I was buggered, I bet mostly they were bought by teeny boppers who don't know who Bowie is. C'est la vie. Xx

Ok, my first thougt was, what the hell is happening on Wednesday? Don't keep us in suspenders. Then I read through the comments and realised that it must be some kind of blogger meet up?!!
Then I thought, what a fabulous headband and what a very talented chick must have make it. Then I thought I love those green peeptoes!
I saw those t-shirts in Primarni too and thought exactly the same thing. I wanted the Ramones one but they don't suit me at all. I remember being incenced when I saw Fearne Cotton wearing a Siouxsie & The Banshees one once xxxx

Frocktasia said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

You look gorgeous lounging in the pergola with your flowing skirt and stunning butterfly headdress.
It doesn't really peeve my that much if the wearer of a Tee isn't a hardcore fan of the band, they are inadvertently like Bill Hicks would say 'sowing seeds'and if that leads to someone actually checking out the music, surely that is only a good thing.
Can't wait to see you sporting that rose print dress...xXx

Mrs. D said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

That headdress is fantabulastic. I think I need something like that in my life to brighten up my days.
I love reading your posts, you're an endless source of inspiration.

Your headband is so gorgeous Clare and for a moment I thought you were wearing the famous travelling yellow skirt. Love that tree, it's nice to see ancient traditions still being remembered in the modern every day world, and well done on all the goodies you picked up, some lovely stuff there. Enjoy the meet up! xx
