You, You're Driving Me Crazy

Wonder how many people wear a tulle skirt to their first driving practice?
Sweatshirt - Charity shop
Tulle skirt - Ebay
Leggings - Cheapy shop
Socks - Ebay

I look grumpy, but really I was squinting... because it was SUNNY. Wow!

I didn't do too badly, I'm sure I'll master the clutch eventually. My top speed was 12mph!!

One day I hope to become as good at driving as I am at Mario Kart... throwing bananas at people optional

My face is driving me crazy, my acne rosacea (acne with extra redness) has flared up and dark circles have enveloped my eyes. Even with this gorgeous lemon Boucle (both yellow and boucle make me think of the MEGA ROCKSTAR SUPER MODEL MIZ BAGG - seriously she should be a model, gush gush gush)

--- anyway even with the Spring colours and the elaborate snot coloured collar hanging like a decorative bogey round my neck I still look spotty and peaky. Peelie Wallie as my Scottish friend says.
Scowl scowl... Almost a complete outfit here.
Cardi - Present but from Benetton
Top - Was a dress, I cut the bottom off and added the collar - ebay
Snot Bag - M&S
Skirt - Ebay
Tight - Primark

I also wore

Top - Primark

Not much on the charity shop front this week, though I did find this great 60s style swing coat during a brief Sunday trip to Beaconsfield.

Obviously couldn't resist a china poodle

I also picked up the brooch, which is pretty old... and I've recently learnt to tell the ages of brooches from these two brilliant videos on youtube.

The thing with brooches is that the backs look surprisingly shiny no matter what the age... so dating by the catch is really helpful.

There we go, we've all learnt something today... I learnt NOT TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE CLUTCH whilst changing gear or braking.

This song and band are one of my all time favourites...

BYE!

Yay! Well done on the driving, You'll be Blogland's designated driver this time next year, picking us up and taking us on a road trip.
Did I ever tell you that after 16 driving lessons the first instructor had a nervous breakdown and the second a heart attack? (Luckily I wasn't driving at the time).
Love the cat top and the tuille, the pimped up top and the sexy pencil skirt. Love the look of the new coat, too.
Very jealous of that poodle! xxxx

Driving is really about attitude. And you have the attitude of a very good driver..confident, fearless, and a teensy bit crazy..in a GOOD way! You will do very well I am certain!

Love the tulle & sweatshirt combo!!! You'll get the driving in no time. I was such an awful driver when I first started people used to swear they'd never ride with me again after I would take them somewhere. Those brooch videos were good-- thanks for sharing them! Love the song and the china poodle. I have skin a bit like yours-- I am prone to dark circles and break-outs. My Roc cream & Emu serum have started helping the break-outs, but the circles are a bitch. I squint in every pic because it is ALWAYS sunny here... "Sunshine State" lolzzz

Cool little video! Those were the days, eh? I've always loved the flapper girls.
Perfect fitting skirt on you by the way and a fresh color for the changing of the seasons coming.
Good for you for learning how to drive a clutch. When I was learning I dreamed about it constantly. Now I don't even think about it, unless I'm on a huge hill and I avoid those if I can.
(Your package just left the U.S.)

I took driving lessons for the first time when I turned 40, and I had the most awesomely patient driving instructor, but he basically told me that I wouldn't be able to afford the number of lessons it would take for me to feel comfortable driving a car. Some of us are meant to be walkers, passengers and public transit users! I might have done better if I would have worn a pink tulle skirt....Good luck with the lessons.

Ah, Louise Brooks. I will have to watch that dating brooches video, I have no idea how to do that. I love the top, and the coat, and the new brooch. Charity shop pickings certainly seem a bit thin on the ground lately, I've noticed this too. I'm so glad the driving went well, good luck with it. I love driving. xx

Acne can be so depressing :(
A few years ago I was plagued with acne on my neck, I went to my GP who gave me some really strong tablets and told me that I'd have to stay on them for ages before seeing any results. The tablets made me feel pig sick & the spots actually got worse, so I knocked them on the head. Then a pal told me about some stuff called '101e acne getaway' and I bought some on eBay, my persistent spots were gone within a month. I'm not on commission or anything ;)
It's hard not to look peelie-wallie at this time of year, I often wake up looking as if I've drunk a bathtub of white cider the night before, even though I haven't touched a drop for years....not fair!
I love your revamped top and tulle skirt...xXx

Love your driving outfit - tulle says Queen of the Road, I feel. The pics of you being all flirty skirty in the garden are just fab! Well done for getting started anyway, it's more than I ever did - I agree with Shelley, some of us are destined to be walkers and public transport users, for the good of all...

The lemon boucle skirt, a la Mizz Bagg, is a beauty, you seem to be obsessed with snot, and you don't look as peelie wallie as you think you do - so stop scowling! I love that whole outfit, it's very 1950s ladylike.
Oh tell me about skin woes... Mine is a law unto itself, and seems to be having A Moment just now, for which I am blaming the peri-menopausal hormones. It's shite.
I want to see the coat, please, I knew Vix would like the poodle, and thanks for the useful brooch-dating vids, and the song - perfect for a Sunday evening! xxxxxx

Oh, I remember those days, bunny hopping up the road..you have so much to look forward too. Just buy an automatic car then its like driving a go cart, or Mario Kart for that matter. Point, press and go :) x

I took driver's ed in high school. One lesson and freaked out. Haven't driven since. Good luck.

Love the yellow skirt and orange top outfit.

OK now I absolutely need to go and buy a tulle skirt and cat sweater stat! I love it when you do outfit catch ups. Love the Beneton cardi with the floral sleeve, so pretty. I just want to come around to your house and steal all your clothes! Well done for getting out there and learning to drive. I have been told so many times that it will change your life once you can do it. I hope to find out later this year! Oh and by the way, what the hell has happened to your hair?? I'm sure you'd died it red last time I looked. We seem to be back to pink!!

Btw, bummer about the acne. I have had 3 courses of Roaccutane in my time which is a wonder drug but has left my skin totally dried out and prone to eczema flare ups. I honestly wouldn't have been able to tell though xxx

Finally I can comment on your posts again!!! I was reading them while on holidays, but it is a pain in the rear to comment via my phone. I seem to have come home with some post holiday acne.....so much fun when your in your 30's! I love the kitty jumper, looks fab with some tule. And of course I adore that brooch. That clip is so handy, I feel like a brooch expert now! Xx

I dig the tulle skirt with the stripey sweater the best. Drive your heart out and rock the road.

This is a motivational post!!
I had my car licence few years ago and I never drive since then, so I hope to start again soon!
Your outfits are always breathtaking, especially the 'licence to kill' cat sweatshirt and tulle and the awesome Tippi Hedren skirt!
I'm sorry to read about your acne, I hope everything will be back to normal soon..the brooch and the coat are wonderful too!
Love xxxxx

Congrats again on the lessons, Clare - I bow to you for doing what I'm too scared to do! Comforting to know, looking at the above comments, that there are other driver-challenged folk out there. Keep us posted on your progress.

You look absolutely killer in your second outfit! Love!

We can commiserate on the troubled skin front - I have red, flaky (pregnancy?) face. Am trying sweet almond oil. :) xoxo

Parp Parp! She's on the road people!

A tulle skirt for your first lesson. You're a legend. I think I might need you as wardrobe consultant on a daily basis. Catface made me snigger, as did yours.

Rosacea, such a chore. You can't tell from the photos.

Lemon boucle, don't mind if I do. Such a classy skirt.

That poodle is adorable. Reminds me of 1940s hairdos and I love Lucy. xxxx

Your tulle skirt is so many kinds of awesome! All these outfits are. I have confidence that you'll be *even cooler* than Mario himself, when driving. That's interesting about the brooches. I only own one, but I think it has a trombone catch.

PS - Not sure if I've said this yet, but your hair colour is so pretty! Especially in the sun! ;)

Dears Clare,
Oh, tulle skirt; thank you very much for the word p;) Actually, I don't have a driver's license. I am not the person who should drive, too careless (^^;)

Enjoyed all the clothes you showed us today♡♡♡ And loved the cute china poodle as well.

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

I'm going to throw my laptop out of the window. I just wrote a glorious tome on pink tutus, beautiful smiles, my skin problems and how I'm going to style my hair like your new poodle. But Blogger hates me. BAH!!!!!!!!!!!! But I love you:)))) xoxoxoxoxoox

Oh I remember my first driving lessons. I was 16 and my driver instructor pulled up in the car and she looked a little frightning *Kinda MEAN*. She introduced herself as Carmella (Which instantly made me think Cruella DEVILLE. So that is how I referred to her whenever I talked about my lessons. It turned out she was a little on the strict side... UNTIL I mentioned what school I went to and then she asked if I knew a boy that went there. When I said yes she told me it was her Son and she then was the nicest lady EVER. *HAHAHA*
I think you look cute in your first driving outfit. And all the other's too. You are building up your wardrobe with some really lovely stuff Clare. =D

Congrats on the driving success!!! Why not wear a tutu when you can look as fabulous as you do!!

Helga! said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

EVERYONE should wear a tutu to their first driving lesson!!! You'll be brillant darling!!! Shrieking and waving your fist at annoying drivers like I do, no doubt....it's so much FUN and you can shop yer ARSE off!
Dammit, wish I'd worn a tutu. So you're learning a manual? I didn't have the aptience for that, it's automatic all the way for meeeeeeee!
Ooo, interesting broochy videos! must have a look at some of mine, although I'm pretty sure they're largely junk anyway!
YAY for sunshine and a new coat!!!

I love your driving outfit. Ha, I can't drive a manual. That brooch is gorgeous. I can't wait to see the rest of that 60s style swing coat.

Marisa Noelle said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

You certainly do drive in style! I should have worn a tulle skirt to my first driving lesson. Perhaps I wouldn't have failed the test :-) I'm horrible at Mario Kart - though I do love it. I really don't think I'm that much better at driving either...ha!

I LOVE all your outfits. You have the best knack for combing vintage pieces! All gorgeousness.

Clutch? Clutch? Yes I vaguely remember the concept. Then I got an automatic and never looked back. And then got shouted at by my instructor for not looking in my mirrors. Love the pink tulle, so pretty. I am pretty rubbish at Mario Kart, sadly, but I was kick-ass at Tekken2, back in the day.
My main tip for successful driving is very loud bass-y music, I'm a teenage boy at heart.
