CABIN FEVER!!!

Help! It's snowed. And in the UK this means DISASTER. It especially means disaster if said snow has trapped you on a hill when you need to go your boyfriend's house. We're never really prepared for heavy snow in this country so there's no transport from the village.

Here's me in the garden, the snow was falling from at least 5 different angles at any one time so posing was kept to an absolute minimum!
I love this 60s furry bonnet, so cute
Cat print cardi - Christmas present from my sister
White jersey dress - ebay
80s scarf - charity shop
huge hairy muff - Christmas bazaar
80s ski boots - charity shop

I've been feeling lethargic and sorry for myself all day. and I had made a secret promise to myself to make this a whinge and depression free blog, so I won't moan too much. Perhaps tomorrow will see me as Simmonds of Naphill the great explorer trekking down the hill  - honestly this particular hill is a nightmare - pulling a sledge with my weekend bag on it.
The reason I'm making so much effort is that this snow has coincided with Mike's birthday, which is Monday and we'd planned a weekend of stuff. Plus being a bit useless I also need to get a few more presents!

Back to fun stuff...

This is a fantastic book, at first I thought there might be too many illustrated covers, but it quickly became apparent that the current Vogue covers are painfully dull compared to their ancestors
For example
1917
 1927

1950

1964
Vogue
etc etc. The difference between these earlier covers and todays is shear effort, style, individuality and lack of writing all over the image.
 yawn

Bit more art deco glamour with this new perfume from my favourite company Berkeley Square which have a fantastic 1920s themed range

On Wednesday we went on a 6 mile walk to and from a pub, the weather was spectaular
no filters used, it really looked that apocalyptic!

Here's a couple of photos for Kezzie who's spent a lot of time in this lovely place

Here's some snowy dogs!

I'm waiting for some more fun stuff to arrive then I'll be back really soon!

You look lovely and very snow appropriate!! I love the idea of you being a female Ranulph Fiennes and trekking to Mike's! Get Monts and Ru to pull the sled :)

I'm snowed in too which is poo as I'm supposed to be moving house :(

The old Vogue covers are great - so much better than the modern ones as you point out. Hope you manage to have a great weekend - despite the weather!

You look all fairytale in that snowy picture. I love the little furry bonnet and the matching muff. Nightmare re the birthday and present situation...good luck, hope you managed to get something sorted. That snow landscape photo is amazing. It does feel quite dramatic all of a sudden doesn't it? Those Vogue covers are lovely. xxx

WOW Clare you look really pretty out in the snow! I knew your cabin fever would drive you out into the cold elements. ;) At least it wasn't hailing. The Vogue covers are SO LOVELY!

I said one giant AWWWWW at those snowy doggies. Poor Moofey's
*lol*

I hope you get down to Mike's safely. You be careful and I wish you luck.

Dressed as you are, this is one of those settings in which if you were to get stranded, a handsome man (Mike) riding a huuuge steed would gallop past, and while doing so, would loop you into his arm then swing you up and onto his saddle with an ease that only heroes are capable of. This means, I love that photo.
I love snow photos because everything glows and looks so clean and the acoustics change. Poor cute doggies. Hug them.
Have a fantastic birthday weekend. Bundle up. Maybe find a horse for Mike.
About the Vogue covers, I think things took a turn for the worse when celebrities started to be cover models.

I have two very old fur ones.....you have inspired me to get them out.
Stay warm if you can!!

You look so cute!! And cold lolzzzz! I love those Vogue covers. I think it went from a fashion forward really artistic/stylistic pov to a commercial one... And got a lot more mundane and boring ughhh.

Joni said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Oh, those cold pups look adorable but annoyed. My dog hates the snow, or the rain for that matter.
If it's any consolation I've been feeling the exact same way about everything. Ho hum, bored too. I think I'm like this a lot after the Holiday stuff.
Your hair color looks so pretty under that bonnet and I love the muffler thing. You're looking like someone from a movie in here today.
That current Vogue is boring compared to all the others isn't it? We're in such a calculated, visually sterile media era.

I love your furry hat, the scarf and all your outfit, you could be an illustration on a Christmas greeting card!!Poor dogs, I bet they freezed outside, but they look so cute covered in snow! Here was supposed to snow during these days, but it snowed only two days ago and then stopped, I'm glad because even here everything become more difficult. You are right about Vogue covers, the vintage ones are stunning!
Luckily Italian Vogue is still avant-gard oriented (the only thing left in this land of sorrow)and usually the covers are more original than that, you should try to find some issues, you don't need to read: it's a sort of huge advertising, but the editorials photographers are the best in the world: Paolo Roversi, Steven Meisel, Tim Walker...it's very inspiring!
Love xxxxxx

I bet the pooches are practically running under the snow if it's as deep by you as it is here, I nearly didn't get home from work today!??!*&%$!?! Very grateful to be inside drinking wine and eating donuts!
Fingers crossed you get out and about tomorrow.

Oh and I just went on the bay of E there's some cracking vintage frocks for the larger of those of us on there all at £4.99 same seller........

Oh snow pics are the best, you look so snuggle and warm. The muff is amazing, they are just so perfect for playing in the snow.
Oh oh I hope you can make it to your boyfriends for his birthday.
The vogue 1950's is cover fabulous I just love it.
Stay warm sweet.

Nice muff, babycakes!

Bloody hell, I've just come home from a market, and had to have a cold shower as I am so damned hot and sweaty! It'll be our turn for snow before you know it, though.Jaysus, I hope you can get out to Mike's!
You are so right about the modern day Vogue covers in comparison to the old ones. Looks like they lost all sense of style along the way. They were works of art!
The wee dogs must have been more than knee deep in it! I expect they quite enjoyed prancing about in it, Helga styley! Our Peepers likes to leap about in the snow. She's more of a dog than a cat!
Fun stuff arriving?! OOO!

I don't miss snow at all, although you look adorable.

You're getting all our snow over there! I love all the furry accessories, including the doggies. I hope you and Mike have a fun birthday weekend.

I love the old Vogue covers, especially the illustrated ones from the 20's and the ones shot by Irving Penn. The covers now are all the same, boring, boring, boring. Kinda like the magazine.

I love that apocalyptic scene, it's so bleak but beautiful Clare, and you look so pretty in the snow. I like Melanie's vision of Mike sweeping you onto the back of his charger and galloping away with you. Cute little doggies, love the snow encrusted eyebrows! My dogs are getting a bit too old for it now, but they used to love bouncing about in the snow. I'm curious about that perfume now, all my perfume's ran out so maybe it's time for me to try something new, you need to do a review of it for us! Love the beautiful old Vogue covers, it makes you think magazines in general really need a shake up these days. I used to buy loads of magazines but I'm much more inspired by Blogger and suchlike these days. xx

Aw, cute snowie doggies, Clare, and you look tres adorable and apr├Ęs-ski (or snow) in those amazing boots, hat and muff. Hope you break out of your shackles soon and get to have a great celebration with your beau. Yes, those old Vogue covers were pure art, weren't they? Now magazine covers are about the next celeb picture and an overwhelming amount of text. Xo

Dearest Clare,
Wow, snow fall!!! Despite the colder temperature, we haven't had pile of snow, yet in our area (Tokyo had a big traffic trouble due to snow fall this year). You always make me smile with your pictures; love your outfit outside, boots are really lovely♡♡♡ Poor your doggies! Hope you are able to have a wonderful tie this weekend. Happy birthday to Mike♬♬♬
Oh, I think we may be able to buy Vogue but never have. I can say the same thing for our magazines' cover(^^;)
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan to my sweet English girl, xoxo Miyako*

I love a big hairy muff. Wow, that trip you made to the pub was worth it to get that shot alone. So beautiful. We've only had a sprinkling really and I've been secretly longing for 8 inches of it. Despite the fact that the country virtually comes to a standstill. I know what you mean about trying to keep your blog light. My moods change so drastically from one day to the next and lately I can't help but feel so indulgently melancholic that I can't shake it. Kenneth Williams style innuendo is never far from my thoughts though. Btw, the ski boots are awesome! xxxx

oh it was the same apocalyptic as here, and the public transport is a mess too ;) i hope it will stop in 2 weeks when i come to UK ;) poor doggy doesn´t look very happy with the snow either ;)
but i love the muff and the bonnet! you look amazing !

I'll try posting this comment for the third time today- I hate CBC's internet!! Thanks for the lovely photos, did you go to The Harrow (or is it called The Plough?). Although, camp tis a big secret, mustn't reveal the name to everyone!!!! Sorry you are trapped! I spent most of the day in because of the snow!!! I'd love a Monday snow day from school!!! Hope you are well apart from being trapped! And Happy Birthday to Mike!
Sorry I've been away from blog- I've been on a sort of self-inititated ban!x

I don´t know what it feels like so much snow, for me is fun, but a bother if you have to go places and do stuff.
You go Clare and meet that bf of yours for his weekend birthday.
Much love, artist.

Oh no, did you get out of Naphill in time to get Mike's pressies and do lots of nice birthday things? I hope so. Unless the apocalyptic photo really WAS the approaching apocalypse and it's hitting Buckinghamshire first... Surely not!
So - in the spirit of keeping things light, light, let's snigger at big hairy muffs and admire the beautiful Vogue cover images and ahh at the snowy doggies. Cute furry bonnet too. And no that's not a euphemism, we've done the muff joke already! xxxxxx

look how lovely you look out in the snow with your big hairy muff. Snicker. Anyway, Clare, I really enjoyed all your photos, including the un-filtered snowy day one. I thought that English people always freaked out for the snow, like it was Christmas from the sky? Well, my husband's relatives do. Glad you sound more sane about the horrid stuff. Pretty to look at though.

I agree about the Vogue covers, I don't buy it cos of all the adverts but I do have several old covers framed as art in my bedroom.
I can't decide whether I want school to be closed tomorrow because of snow or not. If it isn't I'll have to get up and dressed and traipse down there with the kids, but if it is there goes my quiet day (although I will get a lie in). HMMMM. Decisions.

Sorry you've been feeling a bit down, give me a bell if you're not working

"Inside Kate's Wardrobe" ... faaaaaaaarkin' YAWWWWWWWWWWWWN!!!!! Now that's one very depressing cover. I need to get back to the snow funnage pics to wipe that issue of Vogue from my memory. Oh I do love a fluffy muff meself and fluffy doggies covered in snow. Your countryside pics are utterly exquisite!! To keep that depressing cabin fever at bay? Squirt some o' that yummy scent on and do some Squalid Glamour dress-ups with me!! Oh and happy birthday Mike, because you're an Aquarian, you're one of the best people on the planet ;) :) xoxoxoxo

Hi there!

I know snow for you guys is disaster! What about 50cm? this is what we got before X-mas but we are used to it and have the means to still get around, but i was annoying
Love the Vogue covers, you're right so much nicer compare to what we see now but you know, things change all is in constant movement!

Love the doggies, so cute but they need sweaters and doggie boots!
