The long and the short of it

I don't have any maxi dresses but I really loved this 70s green lace one. Now I'm not sure if I should make it shorter.

What do you think? I might wear it more if it's shorter. I don't my face looks very convinced by it

I also bought this fantastic fake Astrakhan 60's coat.

Another recent purchase is these fantastic earrings

and these nearly new Jones Dalmatian print shoes - my aunt sold them to me for £5, which would go directly to the day centre she works for...

A couple of weeks ago Audrey at Undead Dandy kindly awarded me the Liebster Blog Award, unfortunately I already have it, twice I think and I can't think of any more facts about myself, but I will answer her questions.

1. Do you know any other languages?

I'm not fluent in anything but I do know various bits of different languages, I can get by in French and Spanish, but I have tried to teach myself Early English/Anglo Saxon. Anglo Saxon for I Love You is: "Ich Luf Eow" and the person who could be pronounce best, it is our Vix, I think the accents would've been similar!
  2. Tell me a random fact about your maternal grandmother.

How about two?
1. She took LSD before it was illegal, just as a pick-me-up! She didn't mention tripping, just swearing a lot. She had flashbacks for the rest of her life
2. She was at Glenn Miller's last ever concert before he disappeared, it was held at Wycombe Abbey
    3. Favorite bands/musicians?

So many! The Beatles got me through school, I love Sergio Mendes, Pentangle, Frank Sinatra, Al Bowlly and Jimi Hendrix
  4. Favorite books:

I love the Mapp and Lucia Books, The Secret History, Picture Of Dorian Grey, Three Men In A Boat, Rebecca
  5. Shower or baths?

Shower in the morning, bath in the evening
  6. Biggest pet peeve?

Unscrupulous builders who pack loads of houses onto one plot in the countryside.
  7. Favorite quote that reflects your outlook on life.

"Strange How Potent Cheap Music Is" - Noel Coward
  8. Favorite subject in school:

 Art/Creative Writing
  9. Show me your favorite work of art.

I've got loads of favourites, here's a couple

  10. Show me your favorite article of clothing and tell me why you are so fond of it.

Here's one of the many items I love

These boots from Clarks have served me well, they're so comfy and look amazing with everything.
  11.  Anything you'd like to do before the end of the year?

Not spend all my money on myself

The amazing Edie introduced me to a fantastic 60s Czech film called Daisies, I fell in love with it. Here's a clip. For weekly inspiriation visit Edie's other blog Das Schaben

I love that coat on you- and the neckline of the dress is fantastic. Not sure if I'd shorten the hem- what would you feel most comfortable in?

I love the coat! It is perfect on you.
You have very ecclectic taste........me too...
(Sergio Mendes.....me too)

That Czech film looks SO good! I've only seen little bits of it,haven't been able to locate the whole thing yet.
Love this green frock, I rather like it on you!! It's different, being a mxi, of course, but it's FABULARSE! I reckon give it a few more goes, give it a really good chance before you decide on anything rash! The hat is to die for and the coat is SWOONY!
That Fragonard painting (have I got the artists name right? Something like that, anyways) is one of MY fave pieces EVER in the history of art!

I love the dress long on you, but I would shorten it myself because I am little so I wear clothes just under the knee. You could pin it up, and look at yourself in the mirror. Let your eye do the work for you.
I love, love the earrings so much Clare, they are absolutely me. If you consider selling them I am buying. Contact me if you do. Honest I want them, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So much OMG in this post. First, the dress, I don't think you should shorten it, it's very Margot, and that's a good thing. It'll grow on you. Secondly, the coat, I am so jealous, and finally, those earrings. Where on earth did you get them? I have 3 bracelets with holy medals on, but I've never come across a pair of earrings. xx

Well, you know I love a maxi so I like the dress at that length, but Sacramento's suggestion of pinning it up to see what is looks like is a good idea. I can imagine it looking great at knee length but don't hack it off till you're sure! Love the Astrakhan coat, and of course your Cossack hat is always a winner.
I like your list, especially the story about your grandmother - this Granny really did take a trip! (I wonder if Granny Fanny had any interesting secrets?!)
Ah, that Fragonard is so lovely, and I am rather taken with the crazy bird/house too. xxxxx

Keep the dress long, it looks sweet that way.

The Daisies movie is very strange. I found it on Netflix a couple of years ago.

I know what you mean about maxi's. I'm not a big fan of them on me either. I would probably hem it if I were you but just see what it looks like pinned up first. You're right about those boots. I love them. The coat is fab too. Your maternal grandmother sounds like a fascinating woman xxx

The maxi dress looks good; I wouldn't shorten it, you can obviously carry it off well. (P.S. I also like the new look hair).

I need a lie down after all that complete and utter fabulousness ... seriously. Every pic is hypnotic and no I'm not having flashbacks;). Your Gran sounds an absolute hoot - what a life she must have led, believing everything she "saw" was real! heheheeee!! OK the maxi is GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEN so I'm completely in love with it from the start. The neckline is PERFECT on you! I agree with Sacramento too - pin it up and see how you feel before any choppity-chopping. Your new COAT also has me in an utter tizz, you'll be beautiful AND warm!! Earrings - more info pleeeeeeeeeeazzzzzz!! I nearly wet myself at the sight of them. Artwork: The Swing has been a favourite since my teens and damn your refashioned red skirt is a work of art! Thank you for sharing the juicy details, those damn property developers are taking over the planet! xoxoxoxoox

That is one gorgeous dresss, I'd say keep it long, because it looks really special- it can be dressed up or down! The coat (and hat!) is equally fabulous! I like your facts (I hate the builders thing too!)x

Misfits Vintage said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Ooh I agree with Helga - give it a good go as a maxi - you look SPLENDID in it - before you chop. You might just need to get used to the length since it's your first maxi. The coat is FABULARSE and the earrings are FANTASTIC and I love every single one of your art choices. I'm off to watch that vid now. I know I'll love it too. LOVE! Sarah xxx

Clare, I am always happy when I see you have updated your blog! I love the maxi. They do take some getting used to. I don't wear a lot of true maxis but I do love longer dresses. Tea length I guess?? Anyway. The coat is great!

xoxo

I like the green dress and I agree with all the ladies here: if it is your only maxi dress, don't chop it!I find a similar coat few days ago and I'm sorry to leave it there because I always loved astrakhan fur look, but I'm against real fur and I'm sorry to buy one even if it's dead from decades...or maybe it's better to buy it because you can rescue the lambs?
Your grandmother life sounds very intriguing, I'd love to know more about her!
Great taste (both in art and in music) and I'm glad that you loved Daisies, it's really one of my favourite films!!
Love xxxx

Im in agreement with the others keep the dress long and get used to wearing it. Loving your new coat and those shoes are lush. I love you in that pink mini skirt with your jumper and boots that is such a fabulous and flattering outfit on you you look gorgeous. dee xxx

O my, you're wearing my favourite skirt again ( the horse pockets - swoon). I like you in a maxi. Persist I say! Your granny sounds a hoot. Xx

That maxi dress is stunning on you--the emerald green is perfect with your hair and coloring! Keep it long!!
Love the spotty shoes and the new coat!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your Leibster answers!

That dress is stunning on you (what isn't?!) As a maxi loving whore many would be surprised that I say shorten it but what's the point of having something you'll never wear? hop it and rock it!!!
Love the coat, love the shoes, adore the art and loved the fascinating facts. Your Nan sounds like a fantastic lady, you've obviously taken after her! xxxxxxxxxxxx

Vix said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

That should say CHOP it and rock it! My brain's not functioning properly! x

Vintage Coconut said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

I agree with Vix on changing it to your liking. Even though I sometimes am too chicken to chop things. *hehehe* I dunno what it is I just can't bring myself to doing it. That 60s coat is FANTASTIC!

Hello Sweet!!! Hmmm that is a lovely dress, but I think i would be shortening it. Its going to rock even more with the fabulous coat and boots for winter.
Sending a squirrel hug and love V

That dress is a great colour on you but I've no idea whether you should shorten it Clare, I'm very indecisive about these things! On one hand you'll wear it more if it's shorter, but then again it's there for some occasion that warrants a long dress if you leave it as it is.
Your granny sounds like a very interesting woman, taking LSD and rocking out at Glen Miller shows. I was a big Beatles fan at school too, I had a friendship with a girl called Donna which was based on nothing but our mutual love of them. I love the art you picked, that cuckoo clock is fantastic, you always find such interesting images. Love the coat and the shoes and earrings too, now I'm thinking of those Morrissey earrings you made a while back. They made me want to get creative and make some Mozza jewellery myself. xx

Lisa G said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

I like the dress as a maxi but it'd look good shorter too!! Do whatever you think is best, only you know after all if you'd wear it more and feel happier in it.

xx

Love your hat and coat! I'm dithering over turning the white fake fur I have into a hat, but am worried about ruining it as it was quite expensive. Am also worried that with my red coat I may look like Father Christmas.
