Here's three of the four gorgeous ladies I met last Thursday, Curtise, Emma and Vix just out of shot is the lovely Dee. Unfortunately I only took THREE photos as I had a hideous virus and tried not to expend much energy. At least you can get an idea of the fun we had - you can see more of the day on their blogs.
Here's my other two pathetic photo offerings, although the legendary Second To None is on the dingy side (although this makes it all the more fun)
Terrible! I tried not to let being ill ruin my day, it was still great, I felt like I'd know them forever.
We even had a cultural interlude at the wonderful NewWalsall Art Gallery. The main attraction was
The five hour round trip took it's toll and I've spent more of the time since then a selection of Damien Hirst's works. The gallery has a fantastic permanent collection - Rembrant, Constable, Jacob Epstein, Bonnard, Lucian Freud were all there.
It does break my heart that these four lovely women are all so far away.

Here's what I bought...
1940s Courtauld dress - Second To None
Belt - Primark
Tights - can't remember
Tights - can't remember
Mary Janes - Ebay
sparkly 60s dress - Second To None
Sheepskin Dr Zhivago Hat and 60s Crimpeline suit - Second To None
Sheepskin Dr Zhivago Hat and 60s Crimpeline suit - Second To None
Jumper - Primark
Stole - Local church bazaar with ribbon from vintage accessories stall at Wilderness
Tight and shoes - you already know
Unfortunately the 5 hour round trip didn't make me feel much better so I've done as little as possible these last few days. This dress arrived from ebay last week and I wasn't too sure at first, but it looks great. The pattern is really vibrant.

I spent a lot of my time on Mike's sofa watching The Thick Of It and developing a crush on the foul mouthed psychopath spin doctor Malcolm Tucker. (oh and Chris Addison of course - oh yeah and the guy who plays Jamie - right this has to stop, obviously I have been very ill and bored)
Just like the amazingly talented writer Lucy of Small Talk, the internet kept me entertained with various odd bits and bobs. And I the weirdest thing I discovered this week is Malcolm Tucker fan fiction and Slash fiction (you know, fictional characters getting it on etc. Thankfully I'm not the only weird who finds him attractive, but I can feel smug in the fact I'll probably only make a badge not write a romantic story.
If you've ever watched this series you'll find it quite a bizzare subject.
I guess politics is sexy sometimes.
Trouble is, growing up in the 80s British Politics makes me think of this:
Not sexy

Awwww, what a shame the pictures were fuzzy, but we had a great time despite the lurgy and it just means that we'll have to do it all over again in the new year!
Your buys are outstanding, the pretty 1940s frock, the amazing lurex mini (seriously, you look like a film star in it), the killer suit and the Zhivago hat and I love the latest eBay buy. How big's your muff?
In The Thick Of It's got two of the cast from Getting On in it, hasn't it? I've only watched a couple, must try and track it down.
Get much better soon! xxxxxxxxxx
Glad you're feeling better, Clare. Love you in the blue sparkly and the last dress. Gorgeous.
I LOVE The Thick of it. Love it, I tell you. Have you seen the film? Can't remember what it's called but you really should - it's hilarious. xx
Thatcher aint sexy - but you ARE! That pouty close up with the hat shot is gorgeous - should be your next avatar.
Blue is one of the best colours on you - love those two dresses. The dress you picked up in Second to None looks, like Vix said, made for you. It's rubbish that you weren't well. And suits! You really know how to wear a suit. Maybe you need to be corporate bitch-boss (ask Vix for tips!).
Hope you're feeling much better now, poorly-time is good for catching up with TV, blogs etc, gotta be some consolation.
Parcel will be with you tomorrow, forgot to put the card in, so will mail you with an explanation and excuses for the tat within!
Lucy x
Yay, you bought the frock! It looks fabulous. Sorry to hear you haven't been well, that sucks. I have recently discovered The Thick Of It too, having found it on catch up TV. I have never watched anything that makes me so exhausted from mirth and disbelief! It cracks me up so much. Malcolm Tucker is a legend. He has definitely elevated swearing to an art form. Peter Capaldi is in Getting On as is the woman who plays Terri. Also worth a watch xxx
Glad yer feeling better honeybun! Have to say, you had the best buys of the day. That Forties frock is a stunner. We loved it all...you could tell that by the way we kept saying 'Yeah. Buy it.' We'll do it all again soon, lovely.
Oh Malcolm. What will I do without you? Fuckety bye.xxxxxxxx
FUCKIN 'ELL, that teal sparkly mini dress is GAWWWJUSS, you look amazing. And Bond girl is a close second. I am coming next time you lot traipse up there - definitely.
The Thick of It is on my very vast 'to watch' list, I will elevate it.
xx
Love love love that teal sparkly dress, so beautiful. What a find. I love your little doggy too, he's trying to work out what you're doing, bless him. I hope you are feeling better soon. xx
I love and want all your dresses, and I wish I could have meet you all, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Jesus that lurex dress is AMAZING! you look stunning, definitely your colour. The other blue dress shows that for a fact too.
I take my hat off to you for finding such amazing frocks. x
I'm glad that you are feeling better, the meet-up was great despite the virus and the blurry pics, it's amazing that in Walsall there are such interesting things to do, the art gallery worth to be visited! I'd love to see Damien Hirst's works and the permanent collection too and Second to none, the name says it all, it's a vintage goldmine!all the dresses you are wearing are fabulous,I think that the blue dress is stunning with the white tigths, it's a futuristic vision! The fur hat and the suit are very beautiful, every Dr Zhivago inspired outfit makes me dream and your poses are so glamour!
I hope to come soon in the U.K. to meet you all !!
xxxxx
My dearest Miss Simmonds, I hope you're feeling well by this time. What a lovely blogger meeting you had. I wish I could have taken part in this. I also don't want to give up meetings I've looked forward to with so many joy only by the reason that I'm ill but sometimes it's really hard to stand that then. I like your brown suit with the fur accessories. Have a colourful, fabulous, magnificent, wonderful week. Hugs from Miss Maple
It really sucks you were not feeling great. I hate when sickness strikes... but then who doesn't. But there is something that should make you feel a little better and that is that you look GORGEOUS in all your vintage purchases.
WOW!! Your a serious vintage stunner Clare.
What divine dresses! But Dr. Zhivago? INDEED! I have a particular soft spot for that that outfit with the hand-muff and the blue lurex with those white tights. Sorry to hear you're unwell. At least you have all these lovely outfits to look forward to when you are ready to be out and about. How I wish I could have joined you at the meet-up!
Found your blog via Vix's. You did amazingly well at Second to None. The second photo of you in the blue lurex dress looks like its straight out of the 60s. Who's that cutie pie admiring your tea dress? My boyfriend watches The Thick of It and -- if I pay close attention -- it's hilarious (I'm American and the delivery is so quick and I don't get all the references).
I do hope you are on the mend my pink friend across the pond. I am so digging that blue metallic dress on you, dang your are sparkling!!!! I agree with Lucy you totally rock a suit, you make them look sexy like they are suppose too! I don't watch too much TV so I haven't heard of this but I think I will be saying FUCKITY-BYE the rest of the week, OMG it sounds so cute...FUCKITY BYE!
BIGLOVEBABY!!!
XOXOX
You've got a fuck-off muff there, Clare! It was so lovely to see you, even in your lurgy-ridden state, and you definitely were Queen of Vintage on that day, look at all your treasure! The pink 40s dress is so pretty with your hair, but I have to say the lurex 60s frock is doing it for me, especially in that beautiful second photo. And the Russian spy hat and suit are fabulous on you. So is the Ebay dress. Illness didn't dent your shopping powers, so that's something! You needed some spiced rum to perk you up...
We'll do it all again before too long, I'm sure! xxxxx
I'm with Curtise - the pink 40s dress is GORGEOUS and I especially love it with your divine baby pink hair - but the lurex frock is FRICKIN FABULARSE!!!The furry hat is exquisite and the crimplene suit is absolutely rockstar fantastic. And you think YOU live far away??? I am gonna lob on your couch one day and you'll never get rid of me!!! What a fab day - so sorry you were feeling so ill. If I were there I would feed you ice cream and paint your toenails and tell you dirty jokes to cheer you up. LOVE! Sarah xxx
I'm so sorry you've been unwell....I do hope you feel back to your normal self soon. I am so envious that you girls got the chance to meet up. How I would love to meet you all. Must say I love the lurex frock the best, & the Ebay one. They look fab on you. Nothing like some new old frocks to make you feel a bit better! Xx
Im so sorry your still feeling so poorly. It was lovely to meet you Claire your such a sweet person. Im so glad you bought that 60's sparkly dress you look bloody gorgeous in it and i love you in the suit to its so flattering on you. And that ebay blue dress number looks fab. Hope you start to feel better real soon. bug hugs dee xxx
Bummer you were feeling ill,but it looked like a great day out. Love the dresses, the 60's dressing looks amazing on! The Thick of it looks interesting, I will try and catch an episode. Hope you are feeling better, Tam x
Sad that you were feeling ill Clare but you still found some lovely things. The blue lurex dress is gorgeous on you, you look pure 60's girl singer in it. I haven't watched The Thick of It, I live with a mad sweary Scotsman as it is, don't know if there's room in my life for another one! xx
Can't imagine what you would have scored if you'd felt better. Glad to hear you're feeling better. I miss art museums, I can wander around for hours.
The unwell looks might awesome I must say. You look awesome in dresses too I might add. Love that fur hat, it looks great in your new little avatar picture. Very eye catching! I wish I could come to the UK someday soon.

Oh Im sorry to hear you are poorly, but at least your still able to have some fun and find some treasures, flipping in love with your Dr Zhivago outfit its just perfect and you certainly know how to work a fur hat! I have never seen the thick of it, my colleges rave about it but it has completely passed me by, like you I have vivid memories of Spitting image especially the uber grey John Major...not sexy at all... well unless your Edwina Curry, I supose :) Hope you feel better soon xxxx
Oh, I love your cat tattoo! And nice fur hat too.
