Local Woman Uncovers Brownie Drug Ring

The first thing I found at the Guides and Brownies jumble sale was this - it's a cocaine sniffing ring!
Sorry for the out of focus photo, but you get the idea - if unlike Keith Richards you can't grow your own coke fingernail, then this is just what you need. I wonder who in the village gave this away? Who knows what those Brownies are up to?

here's a few little things I bought  - The doggie corkscrew was on the toy stall - he's really sharp also, his head comes off to reveal a bottle opener! The mouse brooch is so cute. I'm going to make brooches or necklaces out of the bat and scorpion a la Sacramento and Melanie

This amazing 50s fan actually works and it was only 50p

Book of hilarious local news headlines, Ladybird cookery books, hand-knitted tank top, psychedelic headscarf, flowery scarf, length of spotty material and real fur collar - all 30p each

Vintage games, panda hat, shower cap! skirt to be put away til next summer, books to be used in my art, doll also to be used in my art

Err - I also got this. It's a book on how to do glamour photography! Classy! I was going to rip it up, but Mike to a shine to it...

Now you can learn to look sexy whilst flossing your growler

Desiree, Helga and Ivy Black are fans of Midsomer Murders. I live in the area where a lot of it is filmed and usually spend a lot of the program spotting places I know. However, they are NOT fans of Inspector Barnaby's wife Joyce and commissioned me to make Anti Joyce badges - which I did!

My sister also really kindly sent me some dresses she no longer wanted - including this amazing Pheasant print one she wore on my birthday - crazy! I love it.

there's a couple more, one in the wash and one in storage for next spring!!

Hope you have a great rest of the weekend!

Excellent..I'd love to know who donated that. It could be the start of a Midsomer mystery in itself. That fan is fantastic (sorry) and I'm fascinated that those photos are so very bad. They are truly crap! Who the hell took them?!
Cannot wait to wear my AntiJoyce badge. Why is it the Inspectors B have to have such tedious wives? I can't even remember the name of the new ones other half. I do like Skyes though.

Clare, that's hilarious! So well-to-do Chilterns villages are a hot bed of drug taking, boozing and soft porn? Involving Brownies and Guides? Surely not!
Love that fan, and all your quirky finds. Good Lord, flossing the va-hooty (Karen's word, don't blame me) while jumping in mid-air, there's a skill...
Lovely frocks, looking forward to seeing you in them! That pheasant print is fabulous. xxxx

SERIOUSLY good jumble haul, I am loving the fan and ladybird books. Never knew the Chilterns was such a den of inequity! Brownies has clearly moved on a bit since my day!

PS There's a school of thought that reckons it was Joyce wot done the murders and Barnaby was covering for her!

Actually laughing out loud at the glamour photography book... oh how things change lol. Was that and the coke ring from your local Brownies? I want to know what goes on at your local Brownies? Really. What a random swag. xx

Okay, I'm REALLY out of the loop because I wouldn't have known what that ring was... If I'd seen them in different sizes I would have bought one for every finger and gone out with them!! (Although probably nobody would have raised a brow thinking, "oh, THAT's her secret." Your glamour photography book is hilarious, especially your description. Are you sure you didn't go to Oxford? Time to buy a trampoline. And I look forward to your bug jewels - thanks for the mention! I am a huge Midsomer fan but I don't mind Joyce. Does that make me boring? Great post, laughed a lot. Yay.

I never knew Brownies could be so interesting..maybe I would have stuck with it! All I remember was making a terrarium out of a coke bottle and singing my Highland Goat!

The cork screw is killer as to is the fan, amazing finds.

My word, they are very glamorous shots aren't they..haha. I can see Mikes attraction. Not sure about the flossing though.

Wow,nothing says "glamorous" like a crotch shot. Maybe the sale had an 80's theme? That fan is a beaut. I like Inspector Lewis. can't remember if I've ever watched Midsomer Murders.

What great scores! I LOVE the old fan. I could collect those if I had the room. 'Flossing your growler' absolutely cracked me up!!!! Too funny. And of course I love the pheasant dress too. Xx

Really now, what sot of Brownies do you have around your way? Andy thinks that ring is likely a guitar pick.

What a fantastic haul! I know of one jumble sale in Liverpool and It never has treasure of this standard. I am considering moving.

My favourites are the fan and the Ladybirds. I've heard of the little Ladybird Cookery books before, but I've never actually seen any. I've got the large format Ladybird cookbook though. I love a lurid vintage cookbook - please post pics if you make anything from them.

The dresses look so pretty and I love the glamour photo book too - how tacky.

Though it may have been used for more nefarious things (you know your brownies better than I!)I'm pretty sure the ring is a guitar pick.

Love the Pheasant dress.

They film a lot of Midsomer around our way too, they have used a house near my parents village 4 times now.

Your posts always leave me in stitches. Those Brownies: if they dance around a toadstool, just what are they capable of? Great finds and the pheasant dress rocks. The photography book just goes to show that someone's definition of "glamour"needs serious revision! I too love Midsomer Murders but the anti-Joyce pin idea is setting me off again. She's an odd character: always trying to improve herself by taking classes (as her husband is practically negligent in his attention to her, in a charming way of course as John Nettles rocks), yet she's such a sour puss! xo

Good grief!!! Amazing what you can uncover (ahem) at an innocent jumble sale!

Your brownie troupe sound like a right bunch, I might have been tempted to join if I'd known that was the kind of activities they indulged in rather than lame old homemaking and baking! You scored big time! I love the frock your sister gave you and that hideous pin-up book! xxxxxxx

I wouldn't have known what that ring was Clare, so that's me had my bit of education for the day. You always find such unusual things, that glamour book is pretty horrible isn't it, horrible but funny, to women anyway, to men it's probably top notch stuff, I know Pat would take a shine to it too . I love the little mouse brooch and the fan. There's hardly ever any jumble sales here. I saw a car boot sale advertised for October 20th and I was all excited but then the flyer disappeared so I think it's been cancelled, sigh. xx

Wow, you found some great things. I love the doll and the children's books especially. The coccaine ring looks like something out of Star Trek or something that Noel Cowerd would have used to dial the telephone with. I wouldn't have had a clue what it was either! As for that "glamour" book. Ahem, obviously Brazillians hadn't been thought of in those days! Those 2 dresses your sister gave you are nice. I have the second one in purple. I'm sure I've worn it on the blog before now. I MUST get me one of those badge makers xxxx

My goodness finding a drug ring out whilst shopping at the op shops... What's next?? A bottle of cocaine? *LOL*
I love your funky little finds.
That fan is totally amazing (Score of a price too.)
I have one stored right now. I plan on using it when we move to a bigger place. But it will have to be placed somewhere out of reach cause MAN those blades can be sharp. *EAAAK*

Maybe Tom Bradley donated it?! You got an amazing haul, well done. We should go car booting soon - are you busy on Sunday?
