Ticket To Ryde

Hello!
I have returned from the Isle of Wight, despite much moaning and worrying I had a pretty good time! In fact I took so many photos I'll have to do two posts - sorry!
I also have hundreds of blog posts that all of you have written to get through!

We sailed over from Hayling Island to Bembridge which took about two hours and to avoid seasickness I swallowed a pill and had a little sleep...

I was actually ok and we arrived at the campsite in glorious sunshine.
The campsite looked down onto the beach and faced an abandoned church tower, all very picturesque. Horses trotted past every morning too!

Not much excitement up at the club house..

Much nicer down by the beach and the campsite meadows

The next day we went for a visit to the nearest town... Ryde. That's the pier above.

On the way there we bought and ate strawberries and red, white and blue meringues!

Here you can see the bane of my week - the wind  - beginning it's onslaught

Ryde is great for shopping, I can thoroughly recommend it for knick knacks, charity shops, sweets, Vintage, everything really.

 Nautical selection
 Gormless Mannequin
For some reason I didn't buy this!

Is it a mini Helga?! Small girl will killer beehive

 Jubilee parade
Saccharine print I didn't buy! Fool! Looks like our Tallulah Porkchop and Vintage Sweetheart!

Ok, now to what I did buy!

Sleazy book £1 and Cadbury's tin £4

 80s enamel necklace £3

Modeled back at home by Ruby - 50p headscarf

and also a fantastic dress which will appear later on...

The weather in the mornings on the first couple of days was pretty bad, but it soon blew over to glorious sunshine. However it was quite cold at night...

Despite my facial expression it wasn't too bad, we drank hot chocolate and listened to radio comedy, when we could hear it above the wind. Snuggling up and reading in our pod (bedroom) was lovely too. Just as long as you didn't need to use the loo in the night.

On Sunday we went to the Island's biggest resort Sandown, very run down and old fashioned, which is just the way I like my English seaside towns!

Also seen

Sandown was sunny and very breezy...

Golliwogs appeared to be making a come back...

The I.O.W is also famed for it's coloured sand

50p sunglasses from Sandown charity shop

Still with me?!

On Monday we went to Bembridge Village Fete

 Amazing house boat...

There was a lot of bric-a-brac to be had.... I instantly wanted this for The Bad Art Salon

only £1.50, I just had to lug it back to the tent!

More postcards to add to my collection! The one on the left is by Donald McGill, more on him later...
 Brooch £4.50 - expensive!!
We didn't get to do much in the way of patriotic stuff this week, but I did get this super soft union jack/flag scarf for £6.99 on a hippy stall.

Then Mike's brother and sister in law Rob and Caroline turned up (other lady in photo is a family friend not Mike's mum). We had seabass cooked in butter and herbs on the boat, it was a glorious evening...

Later on the full moon reflected on the water, it was highly romantic... and spooky, the Isle Of Wight claims to be the most haunted island in the world.

It looks all calm and beautiful doesn't it.......?

Just you wait!!!

See you in part two!

Will be reading and commenting as much as I can this week! xxxx

Hi Clare, did you experience anything creepy? The most haunted island, that's awesome.

Thanks for sharing your holidays snaps, seems you have a full packed holiday. Wish we were there with you.

I love your final photo, you have the most gorgeous brown eyes ever! Tam x

Good to have you back dear. Glad you had a goood time in the end. Oh my, so many treasures here. I would have snapped up that Saccarine print in a flash (sorry to rub it in, I know you probably already regret that one!) the print you got is awesome though, very bad girl style! As is the 'Young Love' book which is also seven kinds of awesome. Coloured sand too - sensory overload!!

I love the photos of the moon over the dark sea, you captured them beautifully.

OK now I'm Googling "haunted IOW" ... it's such a beautiful island and it's heartening to see that its ole, beating heart hasn't been totally ruined since I lived there in the mid-80s. Ooooh you certainly picked up some goodies and I love the postcards and painting for your Salon:)). Oh dear the last pic looks like Ada Doom is about to visit for a month! But how do you still look so cute with just those pretty eyes peeking out! Looking forward to the next instalment! xoxooxo

This looks like my sort of holiday, British seaside towns, charity shops, nic nak shops... Heaven. Ryde looks great, and the moon on the sea looks very eerie. I love the enamel 80s necklace too, that will look lovely on. I've never been to Isle of Wight, but I want to go now I've seen your blog post. Xx

I am so glad that you had a good time! You are so brave getting on a proper sailing boat, I get queasy on the car ferry! The wind was pretty mad though at least it blew away some of the rain:)
We went to the Bembridge fete thing too I wish'd kept a proper eye out for you! I had a cracking headache that day and just could not deal with the crowds so missed out on spotting any treasure but what you've bagged looks fab-ulous! Looking forward to reading part two x x

We stayed in Sandown when we went a couple of years ago, it was pretty awful and I'd never go back there much as I love the Isle of Wight! The overwhelming thing for Himself was all the Gollys EVERYWHERE!

Lovely/funny snaps - looks like you had a great time away. I am loving the 80s necklace - I had a few similar ones that I (now regretfully) gave away before I came to the UK. I like old-fashioned and run-down too! :)

I love the young girl's beehive! What style! I imagine that when you admire vintage style you probably aren't really thinking of it being worn by vintage women, but if you do want to see a great blog on both... have a look at http://advancedstyle.blogspot.fr/
It's very inspirational!

I can't stop smiling at that last picture! the Isle of Wight looks brilliant, a proper British holiday resort. I'm so glad you got some sunshine despite the freezing nights, rain and wind. Love those purchases, the bad art lady has a look of Liz Taylor and the saucy book looks like a gripping read! xxx

Well I am glad you made it home in one piece! *hhhahha*
The beach looks so lovely.

Omg that little girls hair and outfit is just too cute.

It surely looks like you had some good blankets to keep you warm. =D

I love that last photo of you! *hehe*

Boring clubhouse? With the slidey 2p game? Sacrilege!

Some good finds, hope you didn't bring back any of that poxy stripy sand though, I remember having some keyring type thing full of it when I was a kid, and then Boy1 brought a load back when we took him.

Great postcards and I love the little girls too. Cute!

SEE? Toldyousotoldyouso! We all knew you'd have a ball once you got there!
I love all the pics of you, but especially the last one. And the IoW looks fab (never been).
You found some good stuff, even if you left some corkers behind. How could you say no to the £48 commode?! Love the postcards, the cute girls, your sunnies and Young Love. Oh and I'm sure the Bad Art Salon will be suitably enamoured of your raven-haired lady.
Hmmm, are you a camping convert now, Clare? Welcome back anyway - we missed you! xxxx

Great holiday - my kind of break. The clubhouse looks ROCKING to me, I'd have been wedged in there all week!
It's always good to get away from familiarity for a while, and take in your surroundings. A bit of charity shopping, souvenir browsing, sky-gazing, sea-gazing, you've got me all dreamy and longing for a little holiday. And the more Alan Bennett/Mike Leigh the setting, the better!
Look forward to part 2.

Looks like it was a fab holiday despite the cold and wind! Love your finds! I can't believe you left that print behind, didn't you want an image like me on your wall for eternity... HAHAHA only kidding. xxx

Despite the couple mornings of less than perfect weather - this really looks like a fantastic holiday! Camping in the States looks nothing like this - usually in the middle of the woods in a tiny tent with tons of bugs. I would definitely try camping if the views included a beach and meadows like that! Bembridge and Ryde look like such charming little places - and those charity shops too! Sweet finds - I adore that enamel necklace! xx Marisa

Excellent holiday pictorial! It looks like lots of fun, even with the evening bundling. You're right, that old church would have been ideal for my moonbeams dress! I hope you are feeling refreshed and zesty after all that wind and outdoor life. Did you see Willey Boy on your travels by any chance? Dining on a boat seems so romantic! I adore your "mini-Helgas."

Wonderful love! You have made me smile! I love the expression on Ruby's face and I quite fancy the houseboat!
Look at that mini Helga! She rocks.
