Oh Dear

Well I'm off camping on the Isle Of Wight tomorrow for a week. The weather looks terrible and I'm actually not really looking forward to it now. How awful, this is my holiday too. I very much dislike getting cold as it makes me feel very low and ill quite quickly. Plus I must admit I don't like camping that much. But it wasn't me who paid for the holiday so I mustn't be ungrateful!!

Luckily I have money to book into a hotel or chalet thing if I need to.

And I'm very disillusioned with the whole art thing which I'm thinking of giving up.

Sorry for a depressing post. Hopefully I'll have some nice photos to show off when I get back. Plus I heard there's some great charity and vintage shopping on the island!!

Clare xx

Shopping is EXACTLY what a gal needs to cheer her up!
BLOODY weather never plays ball! It might pick up,though, forecasts aren't set in concrete!Just take plenty of booze, then you won't mind what it does!

Oh no, don't give up. Besides, becoming disillusioned and thinking everything is shit periodically is surely the sign of a true artistic temperament!

Have fun in the Isle of Wight - as Helga says, plenty of booze!

No - you are not going to give up painting... doubts are, as Lakota rightly says, part of having an artistic temperament! The sun will be out again soon - ooh, at least by Tuesday but hopefully much sooner.... enjoy the beaches and the shopping! xx

No don't give up painting. We all feel crap about ourselves at times. You'll come through it. The weather forecasts are frequently wrong. It might just surprise you. Lots of charity shopping and booze will make for a great holiday xx

I get like this regularly - very frustrated bout things beyond my control. If your art isn't making YOU feel good at the moment, take a break - it should never feel a chore or thankless task. If it's making you feel insecure, that's often a good thing, it means you want to up your game and do better, look t it that way.
It may be bit wet, but I don't think you'll freeze. Use the chalet money to spoil yourself, buy something special without the guilt.

Try to have fun, but I'm a hypocrite saying that, I can only have fun when I'm not thinking about it!

Oh Lucy you're exactly the same as me! Though as I was saying to the other girls I find tents hideously claustrophobic!! Xx

I haven't seen a forecast, but hopefully it won't be absolutely freezing or rain the whole time. Could you do half camping and half B&B if the weather is really bad? Charity/vintage shopping is a great wet weather activity anyway, as is sitting in a nice pub getting gently pissed!
No! However disillusioned you feel, please don't give up on your painting. If you're not loving doing it at the moment, then have a break. If you enjoy the act of painting itself but feel people aren't appreciating it, remember how wonderful your blog followers think your work is. I bet Melanie and Vix treasure their images of themselves which you created for them, not forgetting Helga's legs! Why not show us more of your art on the blog, and bask in the approval and applause?! You're way too talented to hang up your paintbrush.

NOOOOOOOO!!! I am absolutely putting my foot down - you are FORBIDDEN from giving up art! You are a SPLENDIDLY FABULOUS artist and I only HOPE that one day I will own one of your amazing pieces!!!

And as for camping - well to be honest, it is beyond me why anybody wants to go camping, ever, as I can't think of anything worse. So if it's horrid, go book into a lovely B&B and go shopping!

BIGGEST HUGS darling - NO QUITTING ART! YOU ARE BRILLIANT! Sarah xxx

Aw, I hope the weather is wonderful for you. Don't give up on your art. You're talented. I love the painting you did recently of Helga('s legs). I hope you have a good weekend.

I know exactly how you feel at this moment--but you cannot give up. :) I know it sounds cliche. But, this is your passion, and you are such a fantastic artist. Truly. I hope you feel better soon, beautiful soul.

How fun that there are charity shoppes on the island! Makes everything better, for sure! :D Hope you find some amazing things. Desperately trying to send some sun your way. XOXO

No! No! You're not to give up painting! If your bad vibes about art-making are coming from evil external sources, stay away from them! I know how easy it is to be self-critical or comparative about artwork, but that's a no-win trap!! The best thing is to self-focus. Your own heart is the ONLY thing that matters when you paint. So many people here love your work. Me included!

I'm sorry I can't do anything about the rain! Seems like a good time for hot chocolate and spooky stories around a flashlight huddled in one's tent.

NOOOOOOOO! I'm one of your biggest supporter and fan, please don't give up, let's hold on together, I know what it means being a painter,it's my stupid full time job now and it's so hard everyday to struggle against my inner self that says that I don't worth a penny plus I'm pennyless, so I understand you and I think that being auto destructive is part of our sensibility..I'm so glad to have meet an artist like you, we should fight joining our forces, please don't leave me, it means a lot to me!!!
I'm sure that you'll have a great time, you really remind me about myself, everytime I have to leave I always feel depressed and think that everything is gonna be shitty, but then I usually change my mind and have lots of fun!
Have a great weekend!

Don't give up art, definitely not. You're incredibly talented and even the very best artists faced rejection or people not understanding/liking their work at some point or another. At least you haven't threatened to cut off your ear or kill yourself :) Camping will be okay and if it's hellish just treat yourself to a few nights in a hotel, chalet, caravan or here: http://www.vintagevacations.co.uk/shackpics.htm

I agree with previous posts, step away from the art for a little while, sometimes we all need to take a break from things.

As to camping *shudder* not something I would ever want to do again in a hurry however on the plus side the Isle of Wight is AMAZING!!!!

Fingers crossed the weather is not too bad.

Dear Clare: Giving up painting is not a option. Because one day I might need to put in a order for a Crab or Lobster portrait and who the hell am I going to get to do it other than you?? EXACTLY NO ONE!!
I really like your paintings they are great don't ever give up.

Camping: I like camping (Although I do have a fear of bears... but I don't know if you have to worry about that up there.) When I go camping I OVER PACK & bring lots of warm snuggly stuff for just in case. One thing that would make camping more better if it was slightly cold would be a fabulous bright colored afghan blanket. (I am pretty sure you have already left ... and so I am too late with that bit of information... but it will be good for next time. Also I like to bring nail polish and do my nails if I have a "bored don't know what to do with myself moment"

I have no doubt you will have fun after hearing there is LOTS of charity shops. I think there will be some treasures to be found. Have Fun!

I really hope the holiday improves for you - I'd find the cosiest pub and snuggle down with some yummy food and drink - comfort food and drink:)). I'm not a big fan of camping - I don't hate it, but I love beds;)) Big hugs to you darling woman xoxoxoxo
