Ups and Downs

No... not those kind. Charity shopping ups and downs. It's been rubbish in town recently. One charity shop has hit on labelling things as retro and pricing them up a bit. Boo! Even Oxfam was looking bare.

However, I was approached the other day by Matt from Be in Style
for an Editor's Choice Award! Woo! It's nice to be found by chance by strangers and have your silly photos and nonsense words appreciated.

I haven't gone completely without buying anything this week. I bought some ribbon and added them to my new shoes

I also got these two ribbons

One English, one French

I finally wore these gorgeous lacey tights to work, they look great with the blue shoes from this post and the skirt from this post

Unfortunately I have this problem with tights where I wear them once and the next time they decide they're going to leave me by heading south, usually as I'm walking down the high street, very often taking my knickers with them. This is what happened today. Walking down Wycombe high street knowing that a freak gust of wind could cause terror and embarrassment, hoping no one will notice my increasingly bow legged walk.

The funniest stocking related quote I've heard, ever was quipped by none other than Helga
"my growler ate through them"
maybe I have a hungry growler and the tights are trying to escape?

I had to stop writing this post to take a phone call from my friend Hannah, who just announced she was getting married

What a stunner!
Congratulations Hannah and Ross!

See, this is why stockings are better, they can't do that. Though whilst wearing stockings, I have had a skirt blow right up just as two men walked past me once .. oh the shaaaaaame, I was so embarrassed, I'm cringing thinking about it now. My very next sewing task was a petticoat which could NOT fly into the great beyond.

Oh, Helga and her hungry growler - she's a beast!
I have tights which are too small and barely pull up... BIG tights, that's what we need! Big tights for proper women, there's a rallying call!
Love the ribbon for your shoes, tres chic! xxxx

I have EXACTLY the same problem with tights, the only pair I own that don't do that are a pair I picked up from TK Maxx by Calvin Klein. X

Today, I was literally thinking "Oh, the highs and lows of thrift-store shopping. It's just so emotional." Sometimes you don't find anything! I kept hunting though and came home with a couple of skirts. I'm such an addict.

Congratulations on your Editor's Choice award! I had a pair of tights almost around my knees once. Thank goodness I was wearing a long skirt and was close to home! Trying wearing Spanx or something slightly less constrictive on top of your tights - that keeps them up every time!

I have the same problem with tights, and it doesn't seem to matter what size or make they are. I think I have a long body and thats the problem. I cant ever get a body suit or all in one girdle to fit me either. I spent a small sum on the Gok thingy and its too big in the boobs but at the same time too short, so the straps are stretched and the boob bit is half on my tummy. What total rambles lol, can you tell I am still on bed rest with not many people to chat to lol.

I often have tights which don't live up to their name. Also, having a size 8 daughter another wearer of tights, (I am a 12 / 14 depending on the time of year) means I all too often have our mixed up in the wash. To save any future uncomfortable days, I now wear only purple. That way, I know who's is who's.

Congratulations on your award. It is nice to know when you're appreciated.

Dare I admit I wear my knickers OUTSIDE my tights? Sometimes a small pair under the tights, and 'magic' knickers over the top.
Works for me anyhow!
Well deserved award and fantastic use of ribbon - inspiring.

I too have a very hungry growler and now we're coming into the cooler months here, I've decided any tights that do not behave and obey, will get chopped into stockings and be forced onto a six-strap garter. Actually, I'm secretly hoping several thick pairs will misbehave and get the chop. Will you stop torturing me with those shoes? No really, don't ... I love them so, so much and with ribbon laces too! Thank you for the wedding excitement pic, you have very clean nostrils;) xoxoxxooox

It shows how a pair of shoes can change just with little touces. I hate when charity shops puts the prices up a lot, arrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I too have that problem with tights. I have resorted to wearing undies over the top to try to anchor down the tights. I am always pulling at them when I walk....not a good look! I love the blue shoes too. They look great with the ribbon. Xx
