must. fight. sadness....

Oh dear, looks like the old depression has caught up with me again. This is really not helped today by boyfriend bravely giving up the fags (cigarettes to my non UK readers, he's not addicted to homosexuals) and therefore being out of sorts himself (to put it mildly). We're not having the most relaxed conversations. I can't blame him and don't, it's been creeping up for a while. I need a break from work.

Obviously lots of love to all of you equally afflicted. Those of you who have been sharing your thoughts with us and those of you keeping a brave face.

So. I thought how about instead of talking it through. I do a post of
HAPPY

Yes! Happy. To counteract all the sadness and try and stop it before it takes over

And I want you to share and enjoy the happy for a bit, whatever you might be going through.  Perhaps do your own?

This was sent to me recently and I thought it was hilarious - Karen I think you might like this

Japanese Adverts Make Me Happy!

The A Team Theme makes me feel GREAT
it was my favourite program as a 3/4/5 year old!! Little girls just love explosions

Look where I live, it's beautiful, that makes me happy

Of course finding amazing Bric A Brac makes me very happy
I rescued this French toy cabinet from a skip!

Not to mention winning prizes for my art
look it's Lulu Guinness!

I feel better already.

Other steps I like to take are having a long bath, singing loudly and buying naughty treats.

Charles II for some inexplicable reason makes me happy. I think it's the tash and wig...
 and Matthew Baynton
yeah? I'm the King. Bring it.

Innuendo and Double Entendre in the traditional British style make me very happy

Ok, I'm to start phase one   - The bath

lots of love

You are well onto it and taking all the right steps to hopefully ward off a nasty session...especially the singing loudly.I find singing the Sound of Music soundtrack in medly style loudly very helpful....

Winning prizes for your art and looking queenly while you're at it!AWESOME!

Oh Clare, you have so much to be happy about, I hate to hear that you are sad. The little French cabinet is gorgeous, thanks for sharing! Maybe a few days off work will do the trick, and a couple of yummy chocolates, they balance your hormones they say :)Take care sweetie, Tam x

p.s. good luck mr Clare for your fight to being fag free :)

Hey you! 'Naughty' and 'treats' don't belong in the same sentence - OK!
We both obviously have a massive creativity and excitment filled time ahead, don't know about you, but I find that's what follows these 'down' periods.

Great attitude, thanks for sharing the happiness. Good luck to the Mr with the fag abstinence.

All all all of this is brilliant! I'm so sorry you are feeling low, Clare, but good for you to be taking steps to stop that sneaky bastard depression in its tracks. Recognising the first signs and having some strategies to get in there early sounds eminently sensible to me.

Oh those beautiful bluebells. Sing as loud as you can, love - in the bath, in the bluebell woods, make up a song that goes "I won a prize cos I'm fucking great" and then have some tiffin! Taking care of ourselves is what it's all about.
PS. There is a great Horrible Histories song featuring Charles II, see if you can find it on Youtube. xxxxxxxxx

Lol at homosexual addiction. He can do it. Mental strength, mental strength!

Okay, I am queen of depression. I suffered depression from about 4 - 32. I am now six years happy. Do you take antidepressants? If you do, they aint working and you need to try a different type.

1) Exercise - hard to do, but makes you feel better. It was always my saving grace. 2) Eat good; feel good. 3) Enough sleep and a regular sleep pattern. 4) No drink, drugs or ciggies - they are not doing you any favours. 5) Get outside into the light, doesn't matter if it is cold, you need that light.

Don't give in. If you want to talk meds at any stage, just email me, love. I hate seeing people suffer from depression, I know how bad it can get and I still cannot believe I am free of it.

Best of luck.

x

Oh sorry you're feeling blue, Clare. Yup, singing loudly is good - preferably to something loud and exciting like ummmmm the Grease soundtrack (yes, that's exciting in my world). Love you in the red white and blue. Helga's right, you do look queenly but in the best way possible. Sending happy vibes your way.

Good luck to your partner btw. My partner smoked for 20 years (started when he was 14 naughty boy) and managed to stop -so it can be done. xx

Sucks to hear you're feeling blue. But it's good you have steps to fight off the darkness. Sending happiness and rainbows your way. Good luck to your Mr too. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Clare,
I'm happy! Happy because i've lost 8lbs on Slimming World and my beautiful daughter Charlotte has lost 12lbs! We joined SW together coz she's a bridesmaid on 19th May and the dress didnt fit her on the first fitting! That was 7 weeks ago and and she slipped into it effortlessly last night at the final fitting! I'm so proud of her for keeping it going and she has spurred me on to do better (because I'm the one who REALLY NEEDS to lose weight!) Happy happy happy!!!

Hello darling, I'm sorry that black dog is barking at your door. You are doing great - keep chasing the things that make you happy! I love that gorgeous pic of where you live - so beautiful - and if I were there I would hug you and bake you terrible cakes that wouldn't rise and make terrible double entendres all day long to keep you smiling.

BIG HUGS! Sarah xxx

I think you are always one step ahead if you can recognise it coming on, so much easier to turn it around if you have some strategies in place.
My Nan, from whom I think I inherited my melancholy, swore by singing for lifting the spirits.

Good luck to the other half with giving up the fags been there done that it is HARD.

Oh the elephant ring came from H&M, a set of two the other is a black panther head which was too small for my sausage fingers so I gave it to Himself's sister.

I sympathise, I do. Depression is horrid and no matter wht the prevailing medical opinion is, sometimes you do just need a break from work (especially if your job is crap like mine). I'm sure you already know this but maybe you need to get your meds increased or changed.

On the positive side, thank you for the Carry On therapy. Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Williams never fail to make me grin. "The way the wind whistles up the pass" ;OD

Enjoy your treats and keep fighting fire with fire. Depression is something that needs to be fought tooth and nail like the low down dirty dog it is x

Oh you look amazing - you've out-Lulu'd Lulu Guiness! And prizes? How cool! Sorry you're feeling blue though, there is obviously something doing the rounds of my favourite bloggers.

You did make me laugh out loud with the 'not addicted to homosexuals' thing!

Being sad is not good but unfortunately it is a normal state to be in; so long as it has an end. Then, when the happy days return they will shine all the more.

There is no doubt getting out in nature and taking a walk always helps me a little and art has been a massive tool for the better. I hope your low lets go soon.

Clare, you're wonderful. Thank you. I saw your post yesterday and thought DAMN IT, MISS SIMMONDS IS RIGHT, and I immediately went on youtube and looked up my favourite comedian Dave Chappelle.

Good luck to your boyfriend. Er...did I do it? I don't know whether or not to hope it was my fault :)
